Werte Freunde in dem fernen Amerika. Bevor ich weiter schreibe, wünschen wir Euch allen den Frieden Gottes und trostreiche Gemeinschaft des heiligen Geistes, und eine schöne Gesundheit.  Wir sind, dem Herrn sei Dank, schön gesund, außer meiner Frau, die ist kränklich.

Ich bin Martin Hamm, Sohn des Jakob Hamm aus Rückenau. Vaters Brüder waren Peter und Martin.  Meine Frau ist Katarina Görzen aus Fürstenwerder, Tochter des Kornelius Görzen.  Wir haben schon und wollen noch einmal versuchen, unsere Freunde in Amerika zu suchen.  Von meiner Seite sind dort Abraham Funken, gewohnt in Alexanderkrone, und Johann Funken aus Rückenau, der Mutter Brüder.  Höchstwahrscheinlich werden die schon tot sein, doch von ihren Kindern dürften noch etliche leben!  Ebenfalls Bernhard und Peter. Dann noch meiner Schwiegermutter Bruder Heinrich Görzen aus Pragenau, auch ihre Söhne Klaas und Heinrich, deren ich mich noch gut erinnern kann.  Weiter Franz Görzens aus Fürstenwerder.  Deren Sohn Franz darf noch leben, denn der Vater hat noch Briefwechsel mit ihm gehabe.  Der Vater Kornelius Görzen starb anno 1917 im Herbst, wurde 84 Jahre alt.  Und auch Peter Görzen sein Bruder.  Haben schon mehrere Mal an Euch auf die Adresse geschrieben bekommen aber keine Antwort. Nun wagen wir uns, Euch in Kenntnis zu Feßen, daß wir gerne nach Amerika ziehen wollen, jedoch wegen Mangel an Geld können wir nicht mit unsern Kindern bis zur Grenze kommen, vielweniger übers Wasser. Wir dachten, wenn Ihr uns konntet ein wenig mithelfen mut Zugkraft und Saatgetreide, dann könnten wir, wenn es Gottes Wille ist, vielleicht um ein oder zwei Jahre auf eigne Kosten hinkommen.  Es fehlt uns an allem, Wäsche und Bettzeug und warme Kleider im kalten Sibirien.  Zu haben ist hier alles, doch ist kein Geld. Bitte, wenn Ihr vermögend seid, uns was zu schicken, dann schlagt uns unsere Bitte nicht ab. Wir haben 4 Kinder am Leben.  Anna 29 Jahre, Jakob 27, Kornelius 18, Liese 15.  Anna und Jakob sind verheiratet, sind auch nur arm. Nun einen herzlichen Gruß von
